I've been meaning to set up a blog for ages - in fact, it appears I started one in 2009, but never actually wrote anything - so now is as good a time as any to actually do this.
It's been an odd year writing-wise - one of my least successful in terms of publication, which has been disheartening. However, a little light has shone recently in the form of publication in The Spilling Ink Review http://spillinginkreview.com/issue-6/fiction/ and on Every Day Poets.
Tomorrow I'll be doing something I'm quite excited about. The second year HND students in Visual Communications at Anniesland College will be using some of my work as a project, so I'll go tomorrow and read to them, then they'll take my stories and poems as triggers for their artwork. Should be interesting and, hopefully, fun.
I'm less nervous about reading in public than I used to be. I hated it. Shook like a leaf to the extent that I had to ask for a seat to stop my legs wobbling too much. I'm getting better thanks to practice at Glasgow's Rio Café. But this will be different, so the nerves are kicking in a little. I'm sure it'll be fine...
Hello, Karen - welcome to the blogosphere. Euch. I hate that word. I don't even like 'blog' very much.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm glad you've got one. You'll get the hang of it, I'm sure.
Best of luck with the reading tomorrow. Don't be daunted - you'll be fine. As you say, you've had lots of practice and you've got confidence in your material (or at least, you should have). So, go for it!
Thanks, Dan. I'll try to work out how to make this look as fancy as yours and Teresa's, but don't hold your breath.
ReplyDeleteYeeeees - tomorrow will be fine. *shoogles a bit*
'Shoogles' - what's that?! I don't know but I like it.
ReplyDeleteYeah! Sorry, that's 2 exclamations so far, but it's all celebratory because I'm pleased you're blogging.
Good luck tomorrow, you WILL be fine, remember that thing, that saying, about how looking/acting like you're comfortable/confident is the main thing. Or something.
Blogging you'll get the hang of, just read the ones on mine and Dan's lists (the blogs we follow) and follow the ones you think look useful and when you feel ready start commenting and that will encourage people to have a look at yours.
And then, maybe one day, you will Tweet. (I am a reluctant Tweeter though, I haven't taken to it like I thought I might. We're taking things slow, me and Twitter.)
Shoogle = shake, but in a more Scottish way.
ReplyDeleteOh, I've been tweeting for ages. Actually, I haven't been tweeting for ages, but I've had the capacity to tweet for a long time.
Yes, I'm sure I'll get the hang of this eventually. Maybe.
